For many years, strong, enduring relations have been created between Brazil and France in the field of medical cooperation. It is in line with these previous exchanges that the Academy of Medicine Foundation chose to organise, on 24 and 25 April 2014, its first FAMx forum on public health and medical innovation in collaboration with the Academia Nacional de Medicina do Brasil. The objective of this forum was to showcase and promote the existing medical and research partnerships between Brazil and France, on an institutional level and on public health topics.
In the presence of the authorities from both countries and after an overview of the pre-existing Franco-Brazilian cooperation, the following areas were discussed by Brazilian and French experts:
– Obesity, as a worldwide public health challenge.
– Robotics and medicine.
– The problems of adolescence in a changing world.
In this context, the presentations of the famous Professors Ivo Pitanguy and Marcel Rufo were able to highlight the crucial theme of “Body and Soul”, which the audience particularly enjoyed, delighted to witness the exchanges between these two personalities. The media had attended the event to capture this historical medical exchange, supplemented among others by Jacques Marescaux, a specialist in robotic surgery, and Claude Jaffiol, an eminent diabetes specialist.
